Special Equipment for X-ray Laser
Super X-ray Laser with 27,012 Flashes
It accelerates electrons in kilometer-long underground tunnel tubes to nearly the speed of light. This generates 27,000 flashes of light per second! Chemists, physicists, and biologists benefit from the results of the highly complex European XFEL/DESY facility in Hamburg and the surrounding area, and ultimately society as a whole. With this and similar technologies, viruses are captured in the finest detail, atoms are filmed in slow motion, and sustainable nanomaterials are tested.
Since construction began, Genkinger material handling vehicles have been deployed at the facility, all of which had to be built particularly compact and environment-adapted due to the confined spaces. These included:
- a crane vehicle to be transported down into the tunnel via elevator and to lay 1.5 t floor plates.
- a multi-directional platform truck with lift-push-rotate unit for installing concrete plates as radiation shielding in the tunnel.
- another multi-directional platform truck for ton-heavy special magnets and klystrons, instruments for generating and amplifying microwaves.
Before 27,000 flashes of light per second could shine brightly, Genkinger contributed several “flashes of inspiration” in the form of 12 material handling vehicles for constructing the super X-ray laser.
