Apprentice project in mechanical engineering:

What does technical training look like when theory meets practice? In this apprentice project, our trainees experienced exactly that: they developed a custom vehicle for the safe and ergonomic emptying of chip bins for our own production.

The junior staff took responsibility for the entire development process. From design through manufacturing and assembly to commissioning, the project was in their hands. Together with their trainers and experienced colleagues, they worked across departments on a solution for a real challenge from everyday production.

This project shows how practical the training at Genkinger is. Our apprentices gain early experience in developing technical solutions and learn to take responsibility for complex tasks.

The vehicle was developed specifically for the requirements of our internal logistics. Special challenges included the low clearance height under the overhead crane, the use of the lift between different levels, and the safe handling of asymmetric loads. In addition, the vehicle had to be reliable and safe to use on different floor surfaces.

The result is a powerful and well-thought-out custom solution:

• Load capacity up to 500 kg
• Lifting height up to 3,520 mm
• 360° slewing drive for precise emptying of chip bins
• Sensitive travel, lift and slewing control for safe and comfortable operation

With the completed vehicle, production now has a tailored solution that simplifies workflows and improves ergonomics in day-to-day work.

For our apprentices, this project was far more than a technical task. They were able to apply their specialist knowledge directly, contribute their own ideas and gain valuable experience in the development and construction of a custom industrial truck.

Such projects are part of modern training in mechanical engineering. Whether industrial mechanic, mechatronics technician, technical product designer or commercial apprenticeship – at Genkinger, trainees not only learn theoretical fundamentals but actively work on real projects.

At the same time, the project shows how important collaboration between young talent and experienced specialists is. Together, solutions are created that deliver real added value and are used daily in practice.
